tv tropes: my life
Series: Dinface
A series that began in 1992 and has had a running time for over 20 years, it's something of a mix and match that handles both serious trauma and lighthearted comedy along with some dramatic episodes thrown in for good measure. Although not widely recognised until recently, the show is generally acclaimed for its realistic treatment and discussion of abuse and coping methods, great characters and the various engaging storylines.
This show provides examples of:
Dark and Troubled Past: The domestic abuse kind. Din usually reveals it in small doses.
For Happiness: Din repeatedly states that she just wants people around her to be happy, and that she wants to help everyone be if she can.
Heroes Want Redheads: While not strictly heroes it seems a lot of the people around Din have this mindset, which makes her quite desirable, apparently.
Heroic BSOD: And it lasted for almost a full year ...
Loads and Loads of Characters
Nervous Wreck: For a while. More common in the supporting cast than Din herself, though.
Outdoorsy Gal: Especially in childhood. Goes for basically all of the children in this story, actually.
The Sociopath: Din's dad is the prime example, but there are others in here too.
Stepford Smiler: Type A and B combination. Occurs in a few of Din's friends as well.
So Proud of You: In a few heartwarming moments shared between Din and her mom.
Survivor Guilt: Surprisingly not as much as you'd think, but it's definitely there.
Why Did It Have To Be Bikes?: In her mid teens Din develops a panic attack trigger from ... bikes. Where she lives? Västerås, the "biking city".
"No really, this is just bizarre."
—Our title character on most of her life.

Abusive Parents: Just one, but he certainly qualifies.
Afraid of Blood: Din's mom. In contrast, Din herself shows a morbid interest for it.
Angst: Quite a bit. Interestingly, it's often the existential kind.

- Naturally goes for her mother and siblings as well.
- Others in the supporting cast also have quite troubling backstories.

Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Especially clear in old photographs. Goes for much of Din's family, including herself.
Earn Your Happy Ending: Looks like how things will go - either that or the Bittersweet flavour.
Fiery Redhead: Goes without saying.Earn Your Happy Ending: Looks like how things will go - either that or the Bittersweet flavour.

Tear Jerker
Tears of Fear
There Are No Therapists: Discussed/played with. Although there are therapists they are very hard to get in touch with and due to various laws and conducts neither of the children in the family got to see a therapist despite the mother insisting they should. Averted years later when Din decided to start seeing a therapist after her grandfather's death.
The Woobie: Lots of them.Tears of Fear

- Din qualifies as both the Iron and Stoic kind, depending on time period.
- Her mom is definitely an Iron Woobie.
Troubled Backstory Flashback: Played with. We get to see the backstory in its entirety, but as the lead character experiences flashbacks herself we do so right along with her.- Her mom is definitely an Iron Woobie.
Why Did It Have To Be Bikes?: In her mid teens Din develops a panic attack trigger from ... bikes. Where she lives? Västerås, the "biking city".
